BUCS UPDATE: SALES TAX, OSCEOLA PROPOSAL DOMINATE NEWS

Despite a "trouncing" by voters last September, Hillsborough
County Commission Chair Jim Norman said a one-half-cent sales tax
over three years to raise revenue for a new Bucs stadium "is
worth another look." Breaking a months-long silence, Bucs Owner
Malcolm Glazer said of their intentions: "We're still in Tampa.
Now, that says good things for the Glazers about Tampa and the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers" (Joe Henderson, TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/10).
PSL'S DISCUSSED: Osceola County officials have held another
meeting with bond experts to explore financing a new stadium in
Central FL. According to the ORLANDO SENTINEL, a PSL plan
similar to that used for Gator Bowl renovations by the Jaguars
was discussed as a revenue source. Under the plan, the county
would need to line up $17.5M per year for debt payments on a new
65,000-seat facility. Bucs officials have met four times in the
past two weeks with Osceola officials (Millican & Perez, ORLANDO
SENTINEL, 2/10).
