Demetrius Houston, a 17-year-old from Ft. Pierce, FL, won
the Foot Locker Million Dollar Shot preliminaries last night in
Houston and will take the shot during All-Star Weekend in San
Antonio. Former All-Star George Gervin will serve as Houston's

will host a reception in Washington this evening as part of
National Girls and Women in Sports Day (Women's Sports
Foundation). ABC Broadcaster Donna de Varona will be honored
with the Flo Hyman Award at tonight's ceremony. The award is
given annually to the female athlete who exemplifies dignity,
spirit and commitment to excellence (USA TODAY,
1/31)....Mississippi St. and Cal will join Maryland and George
Washington in the '96 Franklin National Bank Classic. The
tournament, which benefits the Children's Charities Foundation,
will be held December 8-9 at USAir Arena in Landover, MD

$661,000 for Children's Charities (WASHINGTON TIMES,
1/31)....Tultex Corp.'s licensed apparel division reported
increased sales of 10%, driven by the continued strength of Logo
Athletic, which posted a 34% gain. World Series revenues were
also credited (Tultex)....The IHL S.F. Spiders are running a
promotion with Seagrams and local taverns in which fans help
decide the recipe for new Spiders VenOm cocktail. The drink must
