LEAGUE NOTES

     CFL Commissioner Larry Smith is touting a poll in Montreal's
French-language paper, LA PRESSE, which shows that 68% believe
the return of the CFL would be "beneficial" to the city.  The
Baltimore Stallions are in the process of weighing a move to
Montreal (TORONTO SUN, 1/30)....New USGA President Judy Bell is
profiled in USA TODAY.  Bell:  "I'm pretty much a traditionalist"
(USA TODAY, 1/30).... New LPGA Commissioner Jim Ritts is profiled
in GOLF WORLD.  His agenda includes adding two new title sponsors
"who have a national television agenda" (GOLF WORLD, 1/19
issue)....The New York Yacht Club selected PACT 2000 to "campaign
its boats" in the '99-2000 America's Cup challenge to New
Zealand.  (N.Y. TIMES, 1/30).... The NPSL is expected to announce
approval of the Baltimore Spirit as host of the '97 All-Star Game
(Baltimore SUN, 1/30).
