SWINDELL PITCHES IN ON ASTROS SEASON TICKET CAMPAIGN

Astros pitcher and Houston native Greg Swindell has agreed
to purchase almost $15,000 worth of season tickets for Astros
home games, most of which will go to the Harris County Sheriff's
drug abuse program. The tickets will be distributed to kids as a
reward for staying off drugs and helping keep drugs off the
streets. Swindell's purchase will aid the season-ticket campaign
designed to help keep the Astros in Houston. Through Tuesday,
the Astros had commitments for approximately 6,700 full season
ticket equivalents. The goal is 18,000 (Astros). Astros players
have come under criticism for making such high salaries, and not
doing anything to help the team stay in Houston, according to the
HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Swindell is the first Astro to step forward,
but not the first MLB player. Roger Clemens, a Houston native,
purchased four season tickets last week (Terry Blount, HOUSTON
CHRONICLE, 1/25).
