NETS AND MAGIC SPENDING TIME IN THE COURT, NOT ON THE COURT

Nets reserve guard Chris Childs has filed a civil lawsuit
against the Nets seeking compensatory damages, according to the
N.Y. TIMES. The suit stems from conversations his agent had with
Nets GM Willis Reed. Childs contends those conversations led him
to turn down a $650-700,000 offer from a team in Greece only to
ultimately receive a one-year $350,000 league-minimum contract
from the Nets. The two sides will have an initial conference
before a magistrate judge at a later date to establish guidelines
for a possible trial (George Willis, N.Y. TIMES, 1/12).
MAGIC'S COURT: Magic attorney Morey Raiskin said in court
yesterday that George Scholz, who alleges reverse discrimination,
was fired in June '92 because he disliked his job and lacked
certain skills. Raiskin called the claim the firing was racially
motivated "absurd." The trial continues today (Gene Yasuda,
ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/12).
