3COM PARK DEAL EXTENSION IN WORKS

Newly elected S.F. Mayor Willie Brown "appears ready" to
proceed with plans to extend 3Com's sponsorship of city-owned
Candlestick Park, only four months after criticizing former Mayor
Frank Jordan's decision to sell the name for $500,000 as "too
cheap." According to the S.F. EXAMINER, the deal, which needs
Board of Supervisor approval, would extend naming rights through
January 2000 for $3.5M. Recreation and Park Commission President
Jack Immendorf: "The mayor just wanted to make sure we were
getting the absolute best deal possible. My feeling is yes.
Contrary to comments in the press, it's an excellent deal for The
City." 3Com plans to spend an additional $350,000 a year in
advertising at the park, and will have paid $5.575M when the deal
is completed (Steven Chin, S.F. EXAMINER, 1/11).
