THE TAMPA SPORTS AUTHORITY GOES TO WASHINGTON

Tampa Sports Authority Chair Steve Anderson returned from
Washington yesterday in a trip that saw community leaders go to
Capitol Hill searching for an "insurance policy" to keep the Bucs
in Tampa, according to the TAMPA TRIBUNE. The aim was to propose
federal legislation that would require leagues to provide ways
for cities that lose teams to get new franchises. Anderson and
Hillsborough County Commissioner Joe Chillura both said the trip
does not mean they have given up on the Bucs. Jim Kenyon writes,
with rumors circulating about the Bucs relocating to Orlando,
Cleveland or L.A., more attention is now a response if the team
does leave. Tampa Mayor Dick Greco and Commission Chair Jim
Norman said they are still trying to find out exactly why Bucs
ownership rejected the most recent stadium proposal. Public
officials are still waiting for a meeting with the Glazers (TAMPA
TRIBUNE, 12/21).
