HUBBARD SAYS HE IS CLOSE TO BRINGING THE NFL BACK TO L.A.

Hollywood Park Chair R.D. Hubbard says he is close to
working out a deal to bring the NFL back to L.A. in time for next
season, according to the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Hubbard said
last week he spoke to four NFL owners who wish to move to L.A.,
and he added the NFL has already given its blessing in some of
the cases. Hubbard did not identify the teams he is negotiating
with, but the POST-DISPATCH's John Sonderegger writes "it is
known" that the Seahawks, Cardinals and Bucs are interested in
moving, with the Seahawks being "the most likely candidate."
Hubbard said a deal can be completed shortly, and he expects that
the team he reaches agreement with will seek league approval at
the owners' meeting in March (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 12/19).
BEHRINGS NOT SET FOR DUE SOUTH: Seahawks Majority Owner Ken
Behring denies that he plans to move the team to L.A. to play in
a new stadium at Hollywood Park, according to a report in the
HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Behring calls reports he is moving
"absolutely ridiculous," but he admits he has talked to Hubbard.
L.A. radio station KFWB reported Monday that the Seahawks were
close to an agreement to move to L.A. Citing NFL sources, KFWB
said negotiations between Hollywood Park and the Seahawks were
"hot and heavy," but no agreement had been reached. Behring said
he talked to Hubbard once a few weeks ago, when Hubbard told him
to call if the Seahawks were interested in moving (HOUSTON
CHRONICLE, 12/18).
