FOX CLAIMS NO WORRIES ABOUT ANOTHER ROUND WITH TYSON

Fox Sports President David Hill on the Tyson-Mathis fight
set for Saturday night: "The Fox network isn't at all worried
about Don King. We had no fear or trepidation about doing this,
otherwise we wouldn't have gone forward." In Baltimore, Milton
Kent writes King was still a "noticeable noshow" on a Fox-
sponsored conference call the other day (Baltimore SUN, 12/14).
In Philadelphia, Bill Lyon writes, "Fox TV, unburdened by
conscious, continues to promote this as the 'free television
event of the decade.' ... Have the last five years really been
that destitute?" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 12/14). Reports have
only 4,000-6,000 seats being sold in the Spectrum, which holds
18,000 for boxing (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/14). NBC's Jay Leno:
"Fox is recommending that if you want to watch the fight, after
the first round of the fight, turn your TV on its side so it
looks like Mathis is still standing" ("Tonight Show," NBC,
12/13).
