NUTMEG MILLS/CUTLER PARENT VF CORP. CUTS JOBS IN MICHIGAN

     VF Corp., the parent company of apparel manufacturers Nutmeg
Mills and Cutler Sports Apparel, is consolidating its operations
at Nutmeg's Tampa plant and cutting 500 jobs in Grand Rapids, MI.
In St. Petersburg, Robert Keefe reports the consolidation "is an
indication that VF's sports apparel business isn't growing fast
enough" to support plants in both cities.  Nutmeg markets its
apparel "mainly through big department stores" such as JCPenney
and Sears, while Cutler markets its products through discount
chains such as Wal Mart and Kmart (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 12/14).
