In Toronto, George Gross writes "the outfits the Avalanche
owners are forcing the players to wear in public are disgusting.
... Could somebody explain to me the reasons behind the lines
that don't start anywhere and lead to nowhere? ... How can the
NHL's fashion supervisor allow the world's premier shinny teams
to parade in public in these ghastly outfits?" (Toronto SUN,
12/13)
MORE UNIFORM TALK: In Washington, Dave Fay notes that retail
managers in and around DC report that the new home white jersey
of the Capitals is in demand, but "production has been slowed to
keep demand up." Fay also notes reports the league is
considering having goalies wear different uniforms than the rest
of their team next year "increasing their novelty value" to
retailers (WASHINGTON TIMES, 12/13).
WAR IS HELL: In Houston, Neil Hohlfeld writes the IHL
Aeros' marketing campaign, for the third straight year, is "based
on joining the AeroForce, tours of duty and overall war-type
lingo." Hohlfeld advocates a different approach: "The risk the
team runs is what to do if U.S. forces suffer casualties in
Bosnia. ...Perhaps it might be a good idea for the Aeros to have
a 'Plan B' marketing effort to fall back on" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE,
12/13).
