MICROSOFT REFUTES REPORT OF MERGER DEAL WITH NBC

Microsoft Corp. denied a published report Monday that the company is in talks with NBC regarding a "major equity" stake in the network. Allison O'Brien, spokesperson for Microsoft, said the report Microsoft "is involved in discussions to buy up to 49% of NBC are not true." NBC also denied the report, but is expected to announce plans for an all-news network by week's end with Microsoft possibly holding a 50% stake in the channel (L.A. TIMES, 12/12).
