LEAGUE NOTES

     NBA Senior VP/Legal & Business Affairs Jeffrey Mishkin notes
that "drafts" of the new CBA with players are "still floating
around."  Mishkin:  "This isn't unusual.  You're talking about a
full blown document that will run 200 pages."  Mishkin did say
the league will seek to have marijuana added under the league's
drug policy (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/10)....FIFA estimates it
will cost $410M to stage World Cup '98 in France, $144M higher
than the budget for the '94 World Cup.  FIFA's Joseph Blatter
said the sale of U.S. TV rights will bring in $22.7M, or $10M
more than '94 (L.A. TIMES, 12/11)....In Indianapolis, Robin
Miller warns the "clock is ticking" on the potential "meltdown"
in the IRL-IndyCar dispute.  Miller's compromise proposal:  IRL's
Tony George agrees to reinstate open qualifying for the Indy 500
on the condition CART supports IRL's inaugural event in Orlando
in January (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 12/10).
