GASOLINE ALLEY MEETS TOMORROW LAND: DISNEY SPEEDWAY UNVEILED

     The Walt Disney World Speedway was unveiled and dedicated
yesterday, according to the ORLANDO SENTINEL.  The one-mile tri-
oval was built by IMS Events Inc. for $6M and will host the IRL's
season-opener Indy 200 on January 27.  Indianapolis Motor
Speedway President Tony George:  "A lot of people were skeptical
that we couldn't get the track built and the IRL wouldn't happen,
but it's a reality, it's here and it's going to be the greatest
thing in motorsports in the future."  The IRL has opted to use
temporary seating which will hold 51,072 spectators from Turn 3
through the front straight and around Turn 1 (ORLANDO SENTINEL,
11/29).
     OTHER NEWS:  The Charlotte Motor Speedway has decided to
replace its controversial sportsman division races, in which
three drivers have been killed in six years, with a series of
Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) races next year (Ron
Green, CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 11/29).
