NEW-JERSEY'D KNICKS: MIXED REVIEWS FROM MEDIA

The Knicks debuted their new alternate road jerseys during a
Saturday home game against the Rockets. While the new look
gained some acceptance from players, the v-necked, black trimmed
duds were generally panned in the New York press. A sampling --
The N.Y. TIMES notes the circular logo in the middle of the
shorts' waistband, "meant to resemble an old New York City subway
token," looks more like the "buckle for the Batman utility belt"
(N.Y. TIMES, 11/26). Mark Kriegel writes in the N.Y. DAILY NEWS:
"What New York basketball fan ever imagined anything so silly as
the Knicks coming out in black? ... All these marketing guys talk
about glorious traditions, but then they go and sell the game as
if it were a Starter commercial" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/26). In
the N.Y. POST, Phil Mushnick notes the uniform addition
represents "things to come" from MSG owner ITT/Cablevision, who
"have made it clear ... they see Jerry Jones as a sports
ownership role model" (N.Y. POST, 11/27). Meanwhile, in
Philadelphia, Raad Cawthon notes that only the Celtics, Lakers
and Spurs "have resisted the urge" to tamper with their uniforms
over the years (PHILA. INQUIRER, 11/26).
