SALES OF NBA ACTION NOT A MOVING AT RECORD CLIP IN ANAHEIM

Despite strong attendance at the six regular season Clipper
games played at Anaheim last year, Orange County is proving to be
a "tougher sell" for the NBA this year. Earlier exhibition games
against the Magic and the Suns were expected to sellout, but
attendance at both were "significantly less than anything the
Clippers experienced last year." Brad Mayne, GM of the Anaheim
Arena, said the Clippers are "just part of the decrease in
tickets sales" for every event staged this year. Mayne said
teams have been forced to increase spending on telemarketing, and
sales of a 10-game Clipper package in Anaheim are down 20% from
last year. The December 2 game against the Bulls will be a
sellout, while two others are close to sold out. Last week, NBA
Commissioner David Stern named Anaheim as a possible expansion
site (VANCOUVER SUN/L.A. DAILY NEWS, 11/17).
LAST NIGHT: The Clippers drew 10,169 in Anaheim for a game
against the Grizzlies (THE DAILY).
