MEDIA NOTES

     CBS and NBC each drew a 4.4 overnight for taped skating
shows on Saturday -- a combined audience that outpaced college
football.  ABC's college football drew a 6.4 overnight, down 36%
from '94 and leaving their season average down 13% (USA TODAY,
11/15)...Striking newspaper workers in Detroit will start their
own paper to pick up loyal readers.  About 3,000 copies of The
Detroit Sunday Journal are expected to hit streets this weekend
(WALL STREET JOURNAL, 11/15)....Thomas Murphy, Chair and CEO of
Capital Cities/ABC, is the cover story of the current issue of
BROADCASTING & CABLE.  Murphy, on the future of broadcast
television:  "There's more and more competition ... we're
competing with ourselves with off-network programming on a lot of
these cable channels. ... But we're still the only game in town
that can deliver major unduplicated audience" (BROADCASTING &
CABLE, 11/13)....NFL Sunday Ticket is offering the last six weeks
of the season and the entire '96 season for a suggested retail
price of $179.  The special offer is available November 19 (NFL).
