BIG EAST REORGANIZES, COMMISSIONER FLOATS TITLE SPONSOR IDEA
Published November 10, 1995
The Big East unveiled its two-division format for the '95-96 basketball season, with Georgetown, Miami, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Syracuse in "BE7," and BC, UConn, Notre Dame, St. John's, Villanova and West Virginia in "BE6." Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese on division names: "We're going to look at names. We can't do geography; we can't do colors because Conference USA has them; we can't use names like American and National, because baseball has it. ... I wouldn't be opposed to selling the names to a corporation" (WASHINGTON POST, 11/9).
