FIRST GROUP COMES FORWARD WITH INTEREST IN CARDINALS

Andrew Baur, Chair of Southwest Bank, said Monday that he
and a group of investors have the money to buy the Cardinals and
keep them in Busch Stadium, according to a front-page piece in
this morning's ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Baur confirmed that his
group includes St. Louis lawyer Frederick Hanser and Cincinnati
businessman William DeWitt Jr., a former minority partner in the
Orioles and Rangers. Also involved are Steve Brauer, President
of Hunter Engineering and Hansen's brother-in-law, and investor
John Wallace, a former member of the Gateway Football Partnership
that sought an NFL expansion team in '93. Baur: "It is a
serious exploration. ... I wouldn't be interested if there was
any talk of moving the team." Baur did say he knew of the team's
impending sale before Anheuser-Busch's announcement (Robert
Manor, ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/31).
