LEAGUE NEWS AND NOTES: DEION HEARING CANCELED

10.20.1995

     Monday's hearing to discuss the NFL's dispute with the Deion
Sanders' contract has been canceled after the NFLPA exercised its
right to bypass the independent arbitrator.  The case will now
likely go before U.S. District Judge David Doty (FT. WORTH STAR-
TELEGRAM, 10/20). ....Next week's BUSINESS WEEK will examines the
Tennis Industry Association's $15M, 3-year "Initiative to Grow
the Game" (THE DAILY)....World Team Tennis will move its season
to immediately following next year's U.S. Open, and is
approaching Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Gabriela Sabatini and
Martina Navratilova to join (World Team Tennis)....CFL
Commissioner Larry Smith said the league probably will "hold off
for one more year" on expansion (Baltimore SUN, 10/20).
