FRANCHISE NOTES: THE FISH THAT SAVED PITTSBURGH?

     Dolphins QB Dan Marino said he spoke with prospective
Pirates owner Kevin McClatchy Wednesday and reiterated his
interest in becoming a minority owner of the team.  Marino: "I'd
like to be involved because I'm a Pittsburgh guy.  But I'm one of
a lot of guys" (Fort Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 9/29)....Taxpayers
for a Vote on the Raiders Deal, the civic group opposed to
Oakland's deal to lure back the Raiders, has disbanded without
collecting even one signature on a petition to schedule a special
recall election (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/29)....The Heat have
sold an additional $550,000 in season tickets since landing Pat
Riley as coach on September 2.  Among new season ticket holders
is golfer Greg Norman.  Miami resident Sylvester Stallone has
requested individual game tickets (MIAMI HERALD, 9/29)....
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner is upset fans are not more
enthusiastic about the team's wild card run.  Steinbrenner,
obviously unaware that the Mariners were aiming for a division
title:  "They had 40 something thousand in Seattle the other
night?  So don't tell me there isn't excitement in this wild card
because there is."  The Yankees only drew 69,303 over four games
for their final home series against the Blue Jays (N.Y. TIMES,
9/29).
