NEW TIGER STADIUM COULD BE ANNOUNCED AS SOON AS WEDNESDAY

     City, state and Tigers officials are said to have a deal for
a new $230-250M Tiger Stadium in place and expect to make an
announcement Wednesday, according to the DETROIT NEWS & FREE
PRESS.  Sources close to the negotiations said construction would
begin in early '96, and the Tigers would be playing in the
ballpark by '98.  Funding for the stadium in the Fox Theatre
district:  $115M from the Tigers, $55M from revenue from Indian
casino profits, $30M from the city, and $30-50M from private
sources (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/14).
     PEOPLE'S COURT?  Oakland County Exec L. Brooks Peterson said
he will sue to keep the Lions from moving to Detroit. Brooks:
"This is not a personal attack on Mayor Archer or the city of
Detroit.  This is business.  This is a multi-million-dollar
business, and I'll be damned if we're going to lose it" (DETROIT
FREE PRESS, 9/14).
