ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE EYES EXPANSION NORTH OF THE BORDER

Arena Football League Commissioner Jim Drucker said in an
interview yesterday that Toronto is a likely site for a '96
expansion team, according to the GLOBE & MAIL. Drucker: "I fully
believe that we will have a team in Toronto. We're very excited
about the Toronto market and we know Toronto will be excited
about the Arena Football League." The league will award
expansion franchises in two of the following cities next month:
Toronto, Houston and New York. Direct Choice TV President Rick
Buckingham is "attempting to put the finishing touches" on a deal
to bring a franchise to Toronto. While Buckingham was
"reluctant" to discuss his AFL plans, the GLOBE & MAIL's Marty
York notes he is scheduled to be in Toronto today for a
"possible" meeting with Maple Leaf Gardens officials (GLOBE &
MAIL, 9/14).
THE MUSIC CITY NEXT? In Nashville, a deal has still yet to
be finalized to bring an AFL franchise to the Music City. Ft.
Worth attorney Hollis Godfrey is looking to place the defunct
Denver Dynamite in the city's proposed new arena for the '97
season (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 9/12).
