THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE ARTIFICIAL TURF

Yesterday's Oilers-Steelers game at the Astrodome was the
first since a preseason game last month was cancelled due to poor
field conditions, and also the first since Oilers Owner Bud Adams
began negotiating to move the team to Nashville. According to
the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, Oilers fans had signs at the game
imploring Adams to keep the team in town. Among the signs were
"Keep the Oilers in Houston," and "Welcome to Your HOME, Oilers."
Some vented when Astros Owner/Astrodome landlord Drayton McLane
inspected the field pre-game. Fans cheered McLane with some
yelling, "Buy the Oilers!" (John Lopez, HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/11).
FROM NASHVILLE: Two downtown sites are "on the inside track"
to become the location of Nashville's proposed stadium, according
to the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Bill Carey writes that real estate
experts favor downtown because of the "existing infrastructure"
and the potential economic impact (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 9/9).
CFL Memphis Mad Dogs Managing Partner & Coach Pepper Rodgers has
declined to let the Oilers play in his team's home, the Liberty
Bowl, should they move to TN (Jeff Legwold, Nashville,
TENNESSEAN, 9/9).
