GUESS WHICH CANADIAN FRANCHISE IS SET TO LOSE MONEY?

The Blue Jays are expected to lose money for an
unprecedented second year in a row, while in Montreal, les Expos
expect to turn a profit, according to Danny Gallagher in this
morning's GLOBE & MAIL. The Expos are crediting their $11M
payroll for this year's success, and "for once, talk of the Expos
moving elsewhere has subsided." Expos President Claude Brochu
says the team plans to increase its payroll in '96 by up to 50%.
Brochu: "We're fairly optimistic we'll end up with revenue
sharing in the new basic agreement." The Expos lost C$21.75M
last season. The Jays have seen attendance drop by 10,000/game
this season. That, combined with 31 strike-lost home dates and a
$44M payroll, have hurt team finances (GLOBE & MAIL, 8/31).
