FEHR IS CAUTIOUS IN NEW YORK, TORONTO PLAYER VISITS

     MLBPA Exec Dir Don Fehr visited players in Toronto and New
York to brief them on recent low-level talks between the union
and owners, starting a tour of the league.  Blue Jays Player Rep
Ed Sprague told the GLOBE & MAIL the visit was "informative," but
"not a whole lot of news."  Fehr: "All negotiations have their
ups and downs.  We'll just have to wait and see" (Toronto GLOBE &
MAIL, 8/24).  In New York, Fehr met with Giants and Mets players
for about forty minutes, leaving Giants pitcher Rod Beck
optimistic about having a World Series (Mark Camps, S.F.
CHRONICLE, 8/24).
