     Converse President Mickey Bell, on his company losing the
apparel rights to six NFL teams:  "Due to the closing of Apex we
will not have the on-field sideline apparel rights but we may
still have marketing agreements with some of the clubs" (THE
DAILY)....Oakley, the sunglasses worn by John Daly and tennis'
Jensen brothers among others, went public August 10 with an
offering of 10 million shares at $23.  The symbol on the NYSE is
"OO."  Oakley was trading at 30 1/8 as of yesterday's close
(GOLFWEEK, 8/19 issue)...."ET" went behind the scenes of Michael
Jordan's ad shoot for Ray-O-Vac.  John Tesh noted Jordan may have
signed with the No. 3 battery maker for the "$10 million
contract," or because he can now "go one-on-one with the
Energizer Bunny" ("ET," 8/22)...."SportsCenter" showed scenes
from this season's McDonald's NFL spots featuring the two pro
football fans trying to make their way to the Super Bowl.
Players in this year's campaign include Dan Marino and Drew
Bledsoe (ESPN, 8/22)....The Capitals announced that over 18,000
people took part in the NHL Breakout '95 street and hockey
festival held on The Mall in DC last weekend (Capitals)....The
Univ. of Central Florida Knights unveiled their new logo that
school leaders hope will increase revenue.  AD Steve Sloan said
the school earned close to $25,000 in merchandise sales last year
(ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/23)....The Cowboys Emmitt Smith will be the
national spokesperson for the JCPenney/Starter "Take a Player to
School Contest."  Students can fill out entries at a JCPenney
store within a 40 mile radius of a team's stadium through
September 16.  Winners will receive a day with a player from
his/her hometown, $1,000 scholarship, Starter merchandise, and
four tickets to a game (NFL).... Ad agency Bates USA is working
on a "last-ditch effort" to save the Miller Genuine Draft
account.  A decision on the account is expected by October 1, but
losing Miller "would be devastating" for parent, Bates Worldwide,
which lost $400M in M&M/Mars business earlier this year (AD AGE,
8/21).
