DOES PAT WANT TO WEAR TWO HATS -- COACH AND PART- OWNER?

Pat Riley wants part-ownership in the Heat, along with its
head coaching job, according to Barry Jackson in this morning's
MIAMI HERALD. Riley "is believed to be interested in securing"
between 10-20% of the franchise. Sources say Riley has already
received a "multiyear, multimillion dollar contract offer" to
coach. Jackson notes that "when asked during the summer of 1994
if he was interested" in coaching the Clippers, Riley sent a
message to the team, "through friends": "Just to listen, it will
cost you 25 percent of your team" (MIAMI HERALD, 8/23). In this
morning's SUN-SENTINEL, Ira Winderman reports that Riley, besides
his coaching staff, would like to add to the team's front office
"which is already crowded." Winderman reports that former Riley
assistant Randy Pfund could be a candidate for the team's front
office (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, 8/23).
