     ESPNET SportsZone has launched the "first real-time fantasy
football league" on the World Wide Web (ESPNET).... The
WASHINGTON POST's Leonard Shapiro lists the following as possible
replacements for Warner Wolf as WUSA-TV sports anchor:  Fox's
James Brown, WCBS's Bernie Smilovitz, ESPN's Mike Patrick, TNT's
Kevin Kiley, CNN's Nick Charles, and ESPN's Jimmy Roberts
(WASHINGTON POST, 8/18)....Sears Roebuck may sell their half-
share in Prodigy, with partner IBM a likely buyer (FINANCIAL
TIMES, 8/18)....Liberty Sports Satellite, DirecTV and Primestar
will begin offering packages of MLB games -- based on a $150
price for a full season (Mike Hiestand, USA TODAY, 8/18)....This
week's "From the Pages of Sports Illustrated" feature on ABC's
"Wide World of Sports" examines the decline of horse racing in
relation to other gambling (SITV)....Maple Leafs announcer Joe
Bowen will move from TV to radio joining the Leafs' new flagship,
Q 107.  The leading candidate to replace Bowen on Global/CHCH
broadcasts is Jiggs McDonald, formerly of SportsChannel New York
(TORONTO STAR, 8/18).... Award-winning sports director Chet Forte
will join the Chargers radio broadcast team (L.A. TIMES,
8/18)....The MIAMI HERALD's Barry Jackson profiles sports on the
Web, with a focus on the activities of the four major leagues and
local teams and on ESPNET (MIAMI HERALD, 8/18)....Ratings for
both L.A. MLB teams are up.  The Dodgers are averaging a 5.3
through 35 telecasts on KTLA, up from a 5.0 last year.  Recent
Dodger ratings have been in the 8's.  The Angels are averaging a
3.9 through 39 games, up from a 3.1.  Recent Angel-casts have
been in the 6's (L.A. TIMES, 8/18).
