WILL RILEY TAKE THE HEAT? SIGNS POINT TO YES

Pat Riley "could be on the verge" of taking the head
coaching job with the Heat, according to Ira Winderman in this
morning's Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL. Winderman reports that
"the evidence, although circumstantial, has become overwhelming."
Winderman notes that NBA Commissioner David Stern said Wednesday
he would not rule on Knicks charges of tampering against the Heat
at least until next week -- because it is believed the two teams
are working on a deal that would allow the Heat to sign Riley.
Winderman reports that Riley has subtly mentioned his interest in
the position three times in recent weeks and the Heat have yet to
seek out any other candidates for the position. Winderman also
notes that "a very high ranking NBA official" said that he
expects Riley will become coach and "have a hand in major
personnel decisions" (SUN-SENTINEL, 8/18).
