VIRGINIA BASEBALL WAIT FOR CALL TO MAJORS

Virginia Baseball, considered the leading candidate to land
a MLB club in Northern VA, is profiled by the RICHMOND TIMES-
DISPATCH as "a powerful lineup of heavy financial hitters and
strong personalities." The group, lead by William Collins, Mark
Warner and Russ Ramsey, estimates the net worth of their group at
$700-$800M, and includes Baltimore CFL Owner Jim Speros and Fox
Sports' James Brown. Collins says the group's strategy
emphasizes the VA market's wealth and growth. By '97, 7.4
million people will be living within 60 miles of Dulles Airport,
and the median family income in Fairfax County -- where a team
would most likely be based -- is around $70,000. Collins
admitted to "discussions" with an unnamed team: "At this point
in time, all of our focus is on a potential market relocation"
(Mike Harris, RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 8/15).
