ATLANTA, ONE YEAR OUT: NBC KICKS OFF OLYMPIC COVERAGE

     Bob Costas hosted NBC's first look at the route of the
Olympic torch through America before the '96 Games  ("Atlanta
1996," NBC, 7/23)....CNN's Brent Webber reported on the U.S.
hosting two Olympiads in the next seven years,  and examined
corporate sponsorship in L.A. '84 and Atlanta '96.  Salt Lake
2002 Exec Dir Tom Welch: "The interest being shown by the
corporate sponsors has never been higher."  Welch called it an
"opportunity to take all of those dollars and focus them into
what the charge of the Olympic movement is all about" ("Sports
Tonight," CNN, 7/23)....ACOG's Billy Payne:  "I've been saying
our report card is about a B+.  I'd be sacred to say it was any
better because people might start to get a little lazy around
here" (ESPN, 7/23).
