AGASSI CLAIMS IMAGE ISN'T EVERYTHING

The "resurrection" of ANDRE AGASSI is profiled by Ross
Wetzsteon in the current MEN'S JOURNAL. Agassi's recent success
is credited to coach BRAD GILBERT, as Agassi has risen from No.
32 to No. 1 under Gilbert's watch. Gilbert, who wants to work in
TV, is currently talking with ESPN on analyst position. For
Agassi, Wetzsteon writes that "sometimes he seems to be a
creature of advertising that one wonders if he was invented on
Madison Avenue. He can't wear anything or eat anything -- or
even get a haircut -- without thinking of 'product placement.'
Marketers package his free spirit." Agassi once said: "I'm
amazed at how the 'image is everything' label got pinned on me
... I (just) played a part that a company paid me to play" (MEN'S
JOURNAL, 8/95).
