TORONTO OFFICIALS DEMAND BETTER DEAL FOR RAPTORS' STAD LAND

Public "pressure is growing" in Toronto, where a Raptors
offer of game tickets and city usage of a new arena in exchange
for C$4M worth of land is coming under fire, according to this
morning's TORONTO STAR. Earlier this week, the team offered the
city 450 tickets a year for 20 years and free usage of the
facility for 6 days per year. Some officials are now proposing
the team add C$80,000 a year for the next 20 years. Raptors
Stadium Project Dir Jay Cross says the city has overvalued the
land. Toronto City Councilman Peter Tabuns says his constituents
"are of two minds. No, they don't like getting hosed but, yes,
they want the stadium." The team will privately finance the
proposed Air Canada Centre and play at SkyDome until it is
completed (Paul Moloney, TORONTO STAR, 7/20).
