BASEBALL BESTED BY ALL EXCEPT "DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN"

     There were nine prime-time programs on the four broadcast
networks Saturday night, and The Baseball Network's "Baseball
Night in America" on ABC finished eighth in the ratings,
according to NEWSDAY's Steve Zipay.  Baseball beat only "Dr.
Quinn, Medicine Woman."  Saturday's games drew a national Nielsen
rating of 5.5, down 19% from last year (NEWSDAY, 7/19).  Michael
Hiestand notes that two other Fox shows that fared better that
baseball on Saturday night have already been canceled (USA TODAY,
7/19).  Monday night's games drew a 6.9, down 12% from a 7.8 in
'94.  Saturday/Monday ratings in key MLB markets:  Baltimore
12.2/ 14.4; Cleveland 7.5/22.9; Denver 9.8/17.9; Dallas
10.0/11.9; Boston 8.3/14.0; New York 4.3/7.6; Minneapolis
8.5/7.4; Detroit 2.0/2.3 (N.Y. TIMES, 7/19).
