SELIG TALKS UP NEW STADIUM OVER BRATS AND ICE COLD PABSTS

Brewers Owner Bud Selig hosted more than 50 WI lawmakers at
a pre-game tailgate party to "appeal for their support" for a new
stadium, according to Craig Gilbert in this morning's MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL SENTINEL. Gilbert writes that "these same lawmakers,
whom Selig has been accused of ignoring in the past ... will soon
be asked to approve" a $200M stadium. Selig had Brewers players
and Manager Phil Garner meet legislators while he laid "the
groundwork" for the project. In a speech earlier in the day,
Selig told the Milwaukee Rotary Club there are still unresolved
issues on a new park. Selig also insisted that a new stadium be
built at the site of the current stadium, and not in downtown
Milwaukee because of access. Selig, on a downtown site: "Over
someone's dead body." Selig also denied a claim by WI Gov. Tommy
Thompson that there was a deal on the table (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL
SENTINEL, 7/19).
