MINNESOTA TO FORM SPORTS ADVISORY TASK FORCE

The Twin Cities' Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission
is expected to announce the formation of an advisory task force
on professional sports on Wednesday, according to Jay Weiner in
this morning's Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE. The task force will
reportedly hold meetings throughout this summer and fall to
gather information about the health of the area's teams and
willingness of other cities to "throw money at teams." The group
will then give its recommendations to the MSFC by December 1. A
sampling of issues to be discussed: should a new stadium for the
Twins be built?; should the Metrodome be remodeled and naming
rights be sold?; can the area support two, three or four major
sports teams? The MSFC is expected to forward the task force's
recommendations to the MN legislature later this year or early in
'96 (Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 7/18).
