After hearing that former Alameda County Supervisor Don
Perata had hired a private investigator to "unmask" those behind
the citizens group, "Taxpayers for a Vote on Raiders," group
spokesperson Paul Shinoff said they might do the same, according
to the OAKLAND TRIBUNE. Shinoff: "He has far more to hide than
I do. He's running for public office." Perata said he is paying
for the $55-per-hour detective "out of my own pocket," not
campaign funds, as alleged, but added that he may get additional
contributions from those "interested in seeing the Raiders deal
come to fruition." Perata, who has alleged that the 49ers may be
behind the anti-Raiders movement, is a candidate for the CA
Assembly (Rachele Kanigel, OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 7/17).
HEADACHES FROM PSL FEES: David Li writes in the OAKLAND
TRIBUNE the "only upside" to PSL fees for season tickets is the
resulting confusion the program has caused ticket brokers
(OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 7/17). Officials at the Oakland Coliseum say
more than 83,000 applications for season tickets have been mailed
out. The deadline is midnight tonight (SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER,
7/15).
MOVE SHOULD GET APPROVAL: Will McDonough reports in
Sunday's BOSTON GLOBE he received a letter from Raiders attorney
Joe Alioto which notes the Raiders are a "slam dunk" legally to
end up in Oakland and cannot be stopped by the NFL or anyone
else. Alioto: "The competition of cities, not the collusion of
NFL owners, should determine the best places to play football for
the best product in the best setting for fans" (BOSTON GLOBE,
7/17).
