SALT LAKE SPONSORSHIPS -- TOO EARLY TO BE PLANNING?

Under the header "Want to be Olympic sponsor for 2002?
Prepare to pay mega bucks," John Keahey of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE
writes that "it is not likely many Utah-based businesses will
become full-fledged sponsors for the 2002 Winter Olympics." Due
to the high prices, Keahey reports that a local business, for
example, "could sponsor a Utah Symphony concert, thereby freeing
the organization committee from having to pay the symphony to
perform during the two-week Games." Salt Lake Committee
President Tom Welch: "What you create is a balancing act between
the interests of the community and the likes of Kodak and Coke,
who, in reality, pay for the Games' through their multimillion-
dollar TOP sponsorships" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 7/11).
