DURHAM BULLS COULD STAMPEDE THEIR WAY TO CLASS AAA

The Class A Durham Bulls are "interested" in landing a AAA
franchise, according to the NEWS & OBSERVER of Raleigh. The
Bulls plan to return a questionnaire to the NAPBL, which is the
"first step in the chase" for a Class AAA expansion team for the
'98 season. Bulls GM Peter Anlyan: "We are sending back the
questionnaire because we want to keep our options open. We
haven't started sorting out the pros and cons. We just want to
test the waters." If the request is granted, the Bulls stadium
would have to be expanded from 9,033 seats to 10,000 to meet
Class AAA standards. According to Anlyan, there is a provision
in the Bulls' lease with the city to provide financial assistance
in adding the seats if the team moves to a higher level (Bill
Woodward, Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 6/28).
