REDSKINS' COOKE PICKS SITE FOR HOME TO HIS HOGS

Redskins Owner Jack Kent Cooke wants to build a new stadium
on 100 acres in Landover, MD, and will ask Prince George's County
to amend zoning and land-use laws to facilitate the project.
Bills will be introduced tomorrow before the County Council to
let Cooke start construction next year on a 78,600-seat stadium,
just inside the Capital Beltway (John Mercurio, WASHINGTON TIMES,
6/24). County officials "generally have endorsed the idea of
accommodating a stadium" (Neal & Pierre, WASHINGTON POST, 6/24).
Columnist Michael Wilbon urges leaders to move quickly, citing
the now-open L.A. market: "It's called civic blackmail and most
towns have to play. Cooke to his credit has avoided such games.
... Still, how far can he be pushed?" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/26).
