CBS LOOKS TO PICK UP ITS SPORTS PROGRAMING WITH AUTO RACING

CBS Sports is "serious" about auto racing and intends to go
after events "whenever possible," says CBS Sports President David
Kenin in the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Kenin: "Racing is an area I think
has tremendous interest. ... When you go to one of these races
you're blasted out of your seat." For example, in a deal
orchestrated through NASCAR, CBS picked up the rights for this
Sunday's Lysol 200 Grand Busch National at Watkins Glenn, NY,
from TNN, which was in the middle of a three-race contract with
the facility. NASCAR, seeing the potential marketing benefits of
national broadcast exposure, asked TNN to give up the event this
year (Richard Huff, N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/21).
