BENGALS NOT SUPPORTIVE OF CITY PLAZA DOMED STADIUM PROJECT

In a statement released by the Bengals, team President Mike
Brown said the franchise does not support the proposed City Plaza
domed stadium project. Brown: "We appreciate the effort put
forth on this project, but we see a number of problems which
prevent us from giving it our backing." The Bengals are not
convinced the new dome's revenue would cover operating expenses
or pay debt service; they question the forecast that the stadium
would be used for 120 non-football dates per year; they disagree
with the $60-100M the team has been asked to pay for
construction; they think the $6-$9M per year in rent is not in
line with other NFL stadium agreements; they say that cannot
afford to wait the six months that it will take to gain approval
from union pension funds to finance the project; and they would
rather play in an open-air, natural grass facility (Bengals).
