REEBOK SETTLES OUT OF COURT OVER PUMP SHOE SUIT

Reebok International has settled a lawsuit by Houston
inventor Byron Donzig that "alleged that the company
misappropriated trade secrets in development of its Pump athletic
shoes," according to this morning's HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Details
of the agreement were not disclosed, although Donzig had sought
$1B in damages. Donzig filed suit in '93 alleging that his
representatives showed Reebok the design for inflatable shoes
back in '87. He claims Reebok "had signed a nondisclosure
agreement to look at his design," but then introduced their own
"Pump" sneaker in '89. Donzig: "They converted information we
passed on to them for their own benefit." Reebok said as part of
the agreement, they have acquired patent rights "on some of
Donzig's technology" (Jane Baird, HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/16).
