BIG 12 AD'S EXPECTED TO PROPOSE A FOOTBALL PLAYOFF GAME

The athletic directors for the Big 12 are expected to
propose a football championship game in their last day of
meetings today, "despite the fact" that conference coaches "are
unanimous in their opposition" to such a game, according to this
morning's FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Wendell Barnhouse reports
that the proposal would then be forwarded to the conferences'
school presidents for approval in June. The game is expected to
bring as much as $40M in revenue to the conference, something
that would be "hard to turn down," according to Texas A&M AD
Wally Groff. Bids for the game have been made by Texas Stadium,
Dallas' Cotton Bowl, San Antonio's Alamodome, Denver's Mile High
Stadium, Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, and the new domed
stadium in St. Louis (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/17).
