NAMES IN THE NEWS

     The Eagles have hired BOB ACKLES as Dir of Football
Administration, making him "the third most powerful person in the
organization" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5/16)....SUN BONDS, ex-wife
of Giants OF BARRY BONDS, lost a ruling by a CA Judge yesterday
that she signed her prenuptial agreement involuntarily.  Barry
will still be obligated to pay child support and may have to pay
additional support for Sun (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/16)....Yankee Owner
GEORGE STEINBRENNER was on Hillsborough County's '94 delinquent
property tax list and had to pay more than $35,000 in back taxes
and penalties (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 5/16). ....The WOMEN'S SPORTS
FOUNDATION will hold Summit '95 at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas.
The summit is being underwritted by JC Penney (DALLAS MORNING
NEWS, 5/14)....Two NBA sources told the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM
that JASON KIDD and GRANT HILL will be selected Co-Rookie of the
Year (Richie Witt, FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/16)....GEORGE
FOREMAN, appearing on this morning's "Today" show, talked about
the possibility of a fighting MIKE TYSON: "It's not going to
happen unless he comes to me right now and says 'George, I'll box
you, let's sign papers, lets do it.'  No promoters, let's work it
out" (NBC, 5/16)....Lakers GM JERRY WEST and Coach DEL HARRIS
said they would welcome MAGIC JOHNSON back to the team next
season, but only if he gave a full commitment.  West: "He can't
show up at training camp, then leave five game or half way into
the season."  Johnson would need to sell his minority ownership
in the Lakers if he returned to any team.  The problem is salary,
according to Peter Vecsey, as "word has it" Magic wants $10M per
year (N.Y. POST, 5/16)....MSG President DAVE CHECKETTS was
profiled in Sunday's NEWSDAY.  On his NEED TO DO list:  Keep
Knicks and Rangers competitive; Keep college basketball games and
women's tennis events at the Garden; Strengthen the MSG Network;
Bring entertainment to the Garden and the Paramount Theater; Work
on returning boxing to MSG after after a two-year layoff (N.Y.
NEWSDAY, 5/14).
