MONDAY IS D-DAY FOR THE JETS AND WINNIPEG

The Manitoba Entertainment Complex has five days to secure
the ownership of the Jets and get approval to build a new arena.
"However, construction of the arena and the creation of an
energetic, refreshing new ownership group will not necessarily
mean the future of the Jets is stable," writes Scott Taylor in
this morning's WINNIPEG FREE PRESS. Taylor does note that if the
MEC secures the Jets' future in Winnipeg, the franchise has the
potential to make money. He cites revenue each team will receive
from future expansion fees as well as the growth of TV revenue
the league hopes to receive (WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, 4/26).
CORRECTION: Yesterday's report on a possible Jets move to
Minnesota mischaracterized the IHL's position. Contrary to a
report by Scott Taylor in yesterday's WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, IHL
spokesperson Tim Bryant denied that the IHL had any plans for the
Minnesota Moose to move to Winnipeg should the Jets move to
Minnesota. Bryant said that he had told the WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
that he "had not heard that rumor." THE SPORTS BUISNESS DAILY
regrets any confusion.
