         LARRY DOBY, the first African American to play in the AL,
    was named special assistant to AL President GENE BUDIG.  Budig
    says Doby will concentrate on community relations (AL)....In this
    morning's S.F. EXAMINER, Hornets Dir of Player Personnel DAVE
    TWARDZIK is reportedly "a serious candidate" to become the
    Warriors VP/Basketball Ops (S.F. EXAMINER, 4/18)....USA Baseball
    has named MARIO BORROCCI as Commissioner of the U.S. Olympic
    Festival (USA Baseball).... CHRISTOPHER KOCH has been named
    President of New Era Caps, succeeding his father, DAVID KOCH
    (SGB, 4/95 issue)... At Avia, JOHN HUNTER has been named national
    sales manager; CARRIE RIEDEL-WILHITE has been named apparel
    merchandising manager; and RUSSELL MOORE has been promoted to
    apparel marketing manager (AVIA)....Hawks Coach LENNY WILKENS is
    reportedly the favorite to be head coach of the '96 U.S. Olympic
    team (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/17)....BORA MILUTINOVIC has
    resigned as coach of the U.S. Soccer team. Former Portugal
    national coach CARLOS QUEIROS is the favorite to replace him

         HBO premiered its original film, "Tyson," yesterday -- to
    generally positive media reviews (Mult., 4/18)....ROY FOREMAN,
    says his older brother, GEORGE FOREMAN, would be a "perfect"
    candidate to be "commissioner" of boxing (HOUSTON CHRONICLE,
    4/16).  Foreman was featured on "60 Minutes" Sunday (CBS, 4/16).
    Villard Books had to pay Foreman a $100,000 bonus after he won
    the heavyweight title, as stated in a clause in the contract on
    Foreman's his autobiography, "By George."  The book is scheduled
    for release the first week in May (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/16).... NHL
    Rangers President & GM NEIL SMITH denied a report he was putting
    together a business group to purchase the L.A. Kings (N.Y. POST,
    4/18)....PETER UBERROTH has reportedly failed to come up with the
    $130M necessary to buy the Angels (Peter Gammons, BOSTON GLOBE,
    4/16)....Soccer great DIEGO MARADONA is being "wooed" by ROGER
    GOREVIC, Owner of the New York Centaurs of the APSL (N.Y. POST,
    4/18)...."Tommy Boy" director PETER SEGAL's next project will be
    "Celtic Pride," a comedy about a Celtics fan and his relationship
    with a Celtic player.  Segal said it "has been approved by the
    NBA and we may go after a real athlete" (BOSTON GLOBE,
    4/16)....Bruins' Forward ADAM OATES said he wants to build a
    state-of-the-art street hockey facility in Boston.  His company,
    Centre Ice Promotions, expect the project to go forward "very
    soon" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/16).... WTVJ in Miami has decided to
    remove KARIE ROSS from Marlins coverage to avoid a conflict of
    interest.  Ross is the fiance of Marlins GM DAVE DOMBROWSKI
    (MIAMI HERALD, 4/16)....MARTY MCSORLEY plays a thug in the
    current hit movie, "Bad Boys" (FINANCIAL POST, 4/13).
