MONTANA UPDATE: AGENT CONFIRMS PRESS CONFERENCE

     JOE MONTANA's agent, PETER JOHNSON of IMG, confirmed that
Montana will appear at a press conference in San Francisco
Tuesday to announce his future plans (IMG).  Many rumors have
been circulating this week about what Montana will do next
season, including working for NBC.  But NBC spokesperson ED
MARKEY denied that there were any negotiations taking place
between Montana and the network (Baltimore SUN, 4/13).  However,
NBC Sports President DICK EBERSOL did tell the N.Y. TIMES:  "We
have had conversations over a long period of time with people
close to him.  And those talks will continue" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/13).
