KASTEN DISCOURAGES EFFORTS TO SAVE OLD STADIUM

     Braves President Stan Kasten "discouraged" an effort to save
Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, claiming that the team's new lease
with the Olympic stadium "would be jeopardized unless the
existing facility is torn down" by '97.  Kasten's remarks came at
a sports promoters meeting where it was acknowledged that the
issue of parking, legal contracts, and neighborhood concerns were
major obstacles to turning the stadium into a world headquarters
for women's sports.  The idea to preserve Fulton County Stadium
is being pushed by Silver Bullets President Bob Hope, who would
have his women's baseball team play their games there (Michelle
Hiskey, ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/12).
